Let me put things into perspective for you:
there are 322 Division 1 Women's soccer teams in the US
64 are chosen to play in the College Cup
30 of those teams receive automatic bids by winning their conference tournament
34 receive at large bids...
258 teams ended their season today.
But not us.
Today, we found out we are one of those 34 teams... and boy, did it feel good.
(Only three SEC teams made the tournament this year. #1 Florida, #2 South Carolina and #5 Auburn)
All five years that I have been a part of this program we have made the NCAA Tournament. One year we even got to host. It's an incredible experience, and this year we deserve to be a part of it. We've had our ups (beating two top10 teams) and downs, but we have fought hard until the end. I feel so honored and blessed to be given this opportunity, being surrounded by 25 of my best friends playing the sport I love.
I've been playing soccer since I was five, and I although my body has told me many times to quit, I just can't. It is my escape and my passion. It's going to be weird when I have to hang up my cleats. It could've been today, but it wasn't. And if I know my team, it won't be for a couple more weeks.
So, I'll see you in Tallahassee, Fla., Friday night at 7 p.m., against University of South Florida. If you feel like making the trip, I promise, we won't disappoint.
WARRRR EAGLE!
